Do you have what it takes to be an e-entrepreneur?Copyright © Stone Evans, The Home Biz Guy Author of "Dotcomology - The Science of Making Money Online"These days, it seems like everyone wants to work from home and make money on the Internet. But before you even turn on your computer, the first question you have to ask yourself is whether you’re cut out for this kind of work. The fact is, building a home-based business isn’t for everyone. Some people like the commute. They really do enjoy having a boss who tells them what to do, and they like the routine of working nine-to-five for an ordinary salary that can barely pay the mortgage. Personally, I think they’re nuts. More reasonably, there are people who are concerned about the risk of starting up their own business. They’re not sure it’s worth the investment of time and money, and they’re scared of the responsibility that comes with running their own company. They wonder if there is another way to escape the rat race. I’m sure there is. You could win the lottery or wait for your Aunt Sue to keel over and leave you her condo. Or maybe you could sit down with a pen and paper and draw the blueprint for "The Next Big Thing". Anything can happen... Right? For me, what happened was creating a successful, self-running Internet marketing system. It didn’t happen without effort. It didn’t happen without at least some initial investment of both time and money and, of course, it doesn’t happen now without me making sure that the taxes are filed and the paperwork is done. But it happened. I’m my own boss. I work from home according to my own schedule and I get to pocket all the cash my business makes. If you’re prepared to give an e-business the time, the work and the money it needs to get started and get growing, it can happen for you too. Designing Your Website To Maximize Your ProfitCopyright © Howard Ng http://www.EBizOutlook.comWhen you go into the supermarket to buy some meat, and you find out they place the bad meat with the good meat, would you buy from them? How about buying your dream car, would you buy it from a dealer that had damaged automobiles on the front lot? I wouldn't and neither would you. Your website is just like your grocery store and your car lot. You must have an environment that is pleasing to buyers. One that tells the buyer that you are not an amateur. But instead you are a trained and knowledgable professional. Your website is a direct reflection of your product. It is very important to have a well designed website, since it can make or break your sales. The first thing to keep in mind when designing your website, is "surfability". Take a moment to surf around several web pages. Ask yourself what makes them appealing to you? Were there some that make you turn off immediately? Why? Take down your notes and do your research. Usually when a person visits your site, they have a purpose in mind. They are either looking for information or shopping for a product. If you can give the person what they want without having them search for it, you will be ahead of the game. Also make sure that all the information on your website is pertaining to your product. Make the buyer think that your product is the solution of their problem. Your main page serves a very specific goal. The customer will be able to shop at your website with confidence through this page. It should be easy to view and load rather quickly. You have only a few seconds to provide your first impression. We all know that first impression can either close the deal or loose the deal. Make it simple. It is better to have links that are easily viewable by the reader and easy to navigate. Tables are often an excellent choice for the main page of your website. Your main page should load very quickly, chances are if it takes more than ten seconds to load with a 56k modem, the customer will likely to click away to save time. They will surf to other website to find the information or products. To accelerate the loading speed of your main page, you should avoid large graphics or excessive graphics. Too many special effects or banners can cause a page to load slowly as well. To make your web site more appealing to the eyes, you should stick to mild colors. If your site is a content site where the user will be doing a lot of reading, it is best to stick to black and white. Color maybe added when using tables, as a way to brighten up the page, but remember to keep the overall look of the page professional and appealing to your target audience. Since screen resolutions vary among monitors, it is better to set the pixels to a standard 800x600. You may also choose to set the tables in your web page to span a percentage of the page rather than a set number of inches. This will be sure to accommodate all screen sizes. You should remember that a lot of Internet users will not use the same browser as you, and therefore you should make sure that your website looks as good on other browsers as it does on your own. You can do this by download several browsers and reviewing your pages through them. Be aware of the fact that the overall look of your website is a way to make money. The appearance of the website, if designed properly, can be an excellent marketing strategy for your product or service. Copyright © Howard Ng http://www.EBizOutlook.comYou have a dream to work at home. You're excited. You have a great idea for a profitable online business. Maybe it is an new idea that has not been marketed online before. Maybe you have come up with a new spin on the ordinary. Whatever it is that has inspired you to start your online business, be certain that you have a plan before you begin. This is not the time to "pick it up as you go". These are some fundamentals that should be included in your business plan. Start with the business summary. It should give a brief description of the entire business and is an integral part of the overall business plan. After you have completed the business summary you should begin to list the objectives or the goals that you want to accomplish through the business. Next and perhaps most importantly, you should develop your marketing plan. The marketing plan will address all the aspects of the business. When developing the marketing plan you should consider the following: * The target market. The target market is the customers that you expect to see visiting your site. For example will your product be more appealing to college students or those who are in retirement. Will it be more attractive to female or to male. * Consider your competitor when determining the marketing strategy. Choose a product that will be seen as unique and useful. Survey the sites that are offering the same or similar products. You can do a search from Google to locate your competitor. Find out the cost, and how they are marketing their products. Find out the pros and cons of their business and try to better your product based on their flaws. * Research the various methods for advertising online. You should become familiar with search engines and how they work since each one is different. Also be certain that you know how to submit your site to search engines. You should budget to spend a small amount of money on advertising. The profits that you will gain from the advertisements will prove to be money well spent. * Think about pricing. Again, look at the competition and see what similar products are selling for. You can easily check it out from Froogle.com or Pricegrabber.com . Pricing can be a big factor in the success of your product since selling a product well below the average price may lead customer to think that there is a problem with the product or that it is not of the highest quality. However, pricing items too high could also turn customer away. * Determine the shipping method. Be sure that you know how products will be shipped so that you can have shipping details clearly posted on your site. If you are shipping things of great value, you should consider providing shipping insurance. Also think about shipping outside the country that you live in. At this time we need to establish the return policy as well. * Consider the different methods of payment that you will accept. If your business does not accept credit cards, you should be ready to give up half, if not more, of your sales. If you would like to accept credit cards on your website. You have to decide whether to use a merchant account or a third party credit card processing center. Both will help you get started. The third party processing center will handle all of the business so you don't have to. You should also decide if you will accept checks or money orders. It is crucial to have a secure server when taking credit cards. This will give your customers more confidence to use credit card on your site. These few things will help your online business to become a great success and also provide you with peace of mind knowing that you have thoroughly thought about and planned for the opening of your online business.
